Northern Superchargers v Manchester Originals at Headingley August 4th

THE Northern Supercharges beat the Manchester Originals by 46 runs in front of a record attendance for a women’s match at Headingley.

Put into bat the Northern Supercharges made 138 for four in their 100 balls with Annabelle Sutherland top scoring with 44 following on from her 63 on Friday against the Oval Invincibles.

She said: “At the  halfway stage we felt that we were about par or probably just a little bit under.  The wind made it easier to hit through the ball. We had a good start so I didn't feel under pressure to hit out from the beginning of my innings because I knew that I could catch up at the back end.  Following my 63 on Friday I hope I can carry on with this momentum but the most important thing is to keep up with the process’ and hope that as a team we can keep it going.” 


Sutherland drove Fi Morris’ first ball over the long-off boundary and she top edged a drive off Alice Monaghan to the extra cover boundary to bring up  the Supercharges hundred. Then she drove Monaghan straight for a six.  At the other end she took a couple of paces down the pitch and drove Morris for another straight six and drove the next ball to the long off boundary.

She flat batted Kim Garth for a straight four but slashed the next ball to Lara  Wolvaardt at backward point.

Opener Phoebie Litchfield was the lynchpin of the Supercharges innings coming at the fall  of the first wicket with 24 on the board she made 43.  She swept Ecclestone over the mid-wicket boundary later she scooped Laureen Filer over the stumper  Ellie Threlkeld’s head to the third man boundary. She reversed swept Morris to the cover boundary.  But she  became Filer’s second victim when helped  a short ball through to Threlkeld.


After putting 47 on with Litchfield, Hollie Armitage, reversed swept Monaghan’s  first ball to Filer at short third man.  But the Originals should have had her back in the hutch when she made four when she  Filer to Monaghan at square leg but she  fumbled the chance.


The Originals got a breakthrough when opener Davina  Perrin got too far under a drive off Ecclestone and found Bel Mooney at cover.

After hitting a couple of fours and a six  at the start of the Originals chase,  Wolvaardt sliced a drive off Kate Cross to  Grace Ballinger at point. 

Emma Lamb delicately cut Georgia Wareham to the third man boundary but then the Orginals fell apart as they lost seven wickets for 32 runs. Bel Mooney took a couple of paces down the pitch and tried to steer Wareham through point but gave an easy catch to Lucy Higham at point.

On one, Eve Jones was given out caught behind off Sutherland but Jones reviewed it and the replay showed that she hadn’t got a touch on it.

Lamb drove Wareham to mid-off and set for a single but she couldn’t beat Cross’ direct hit. Despite her previous reprieve Jones was on her way back to the hutch when she drove Linsey  Smith straight to Sutherland on the long-off boundary.

Kathryn Bryce top edged a cut off Ballinger to give stumper Heath an easy catch.  Morris drove Sutherland to Alice Davidson-Richard’s at mid-off Captain Ecclestone pulled Smith to Higham at short mid-wicket. Garth punched a ball that  got big on her to Perrin at point. Threlkeld went down the pitch to Cross and was stumped by a mile.

Monaghan and Filer added 23 for the last wicket before Monaghan had a big swing at  Cross and was bowled leaving number 11 Filer unbeaten and top scorer with 20.
