Moen Ali to play for Yorkshire in T20 Blast

Neil Whitaker reports

FORMER England all-rounder Moeen Ali has reversed his decision to retire from domestic cricket to join Yorkshire on a Blast only contract for 2026.

Moeen Ali, won two IPL titles with Chennai Super Kings, captained Worcestershire to their first Blast triumph in 2018 and skippered Birmingham Phoenix to the final of the inaugural Hundred tournament. In 420 T20 matches he has scored 7,792 runs and taken 271 wickets, including a highest score of 121* in the Vitality Blast. He was a key figure in England’s era-defining limited-overs sides where he won two World Cups and, in 92 IT20s, took 51 wickets and scored 1,229 runs, including seven 50s.

He said, “I’m delighted to be joining Yorkshire for the Blast. It’s a huge club with a proud history, but what really appeals to me is where the team is heading. There’s a lot of talent in the squad and the chance to work with Anthony McGrath and help push the group forward is exciting for me.

I’ve always loved playing at Headingley, the wicket, the atmosphere and the supporters make it a special place. This feels like a fresh challenge and I’m arriving hungry for it. I want to bring my experience, enjoy my cricket and help Yorkshire compete.”

Yorkshire’s General manager of Cricket Gavin Hamilton said: “ Moeen Ail is a world-class all-rounder whose influence extends well beyond his on-field ability. His experience and leadership will be invaluable as we continue to strengthen our T20 side and build a team capable of challenging consistently in the Blast.

He will bring presence to the dressing room, and his arrival will be positive for the wider club and for cricket in Yorkshire. His decision to join Yorkshire reflects the direction of travel at the Club and the environment we are building. We’re excited about what Moeen Ali will bring, not just in performances, but in setting standards and helping drive the group forward.”

The former England international will link up with the Yorkshire squad in May.
