Lochie Ferguson Interview June 27th

Neil Whitaker reports

YORKSHIRE’S latest overseas player New Zealander Lochie Ferguson has isssued a warning to fellow Viking Jordan Thompson that he’ll be keeping his on him.

24-year-old Thompson has impressed fans with exhilarating batting  performance’s in the Vitality Blast T20 this season against Worcestershire Rapids where he hit five sixes in his 66 and another seven sixes in his 74 against the Northamptonshire Steelbacks.  While his batting has hit the heights his bowling has tended to suffer maybe because his big knocks have come when the Vikings have batted first and maybe they have tired him out.

Ferguson said: “He’s got the right attitude to become a future England player. But he's still got a lot to learn, but  I’ll be keeping my eye on him.”

Yorkshire have recently signed Mark Stoneman, who Ferguson said: “He batted beautifully” on his debut against Northamptonshire Steelbacks,on loan from Surrey to replace Dawid Malan who has become the latest player to be called up by England for the one day squad.  Ferguson said: “It’s a testament to how good the club is at producing England players and there are a lot of England players for the future here.”

Ferguson hailed the result against the Steelbacks as: “An excellent performance” after they had been beaten the night before by Leicestershire Foxes. He continued: “It was a good team effort we talked about coming back tonight. The lads batted well and the crowd loved it.”

He is the type of bowler that Yorkshire have missed for years, a bowler who can blast the tail away without runs.
