Yorkshire Women v Northamptonshire Women T20 Vitality Blast July 13th

YORKSHIRE stretched  their unbeaten run in Tier Two of the Vitality Blast to six after a  53  a run victory over Northamptonshire Steelbacks at Headingley.

Opener Georgia Boyce top scored for Yorkshire with 55.  She shared in a second wicket partnership with Rebecca Duckworth in 11 overs.  Boyce’s 50 came from 45 balls and included seven fours.  She added  another five before she  gave the long handle to Emily Carpenter but found Mabel Reid at mid-off.

Yorkshire reached 167 for four in their 20 overs  and the Steelbacks were well out of contention by the halfway stage.  Duckworth who  made 32, gave her wicket away when she went down the pitch to Lenny Sims, missed the ball by a mile and was bowled.

After winning the toss and deciding to bat at a sun drenched Headingley Yorkshire raced to 51 inside their first six overs and never looked like losing a wicket until Olive Thomas got too far under a drive off Mabel Reid and skied it to Marriott at mid-off.

 Reid was removed from the attack after the first ball of her second over for  bowling a beamer. In her first over her radar was all over the place as she bowled two consecutive wides down the legside that ran to the boundary.

At the end of the penultimate over Ami  Campbell had a big swing at Ella Phillips missed the ball and was bowled.

In their reply Steelbacks captain Gemma Marriott top scored with 41 and shared  in a partnership of 31 with Anne Dowse in six overs.  Their partnership was broken when Dowse pulled Fackrell to Holly Garton mid-on.

On 27 Marriott cut Claudia Cooper to Boyce at point who caught the ball in her right hand but as she fell to the ground the ball bobbled out of her hand.

Yorkshire got rid of Marriott when she smashed a full toss from Fackrell straight down Erin Thomas’ throat at long-on.

The Steelbacks lost their first wicket in the fifth over when Melisa Kemp sliced  a drive off Cooper to Campbell at point.  Reid pulled Thomas to square leg and was called for a single by Marriott.  But Reid couldn’t beat Fackrell’s throw  and  Olive Thomas had the simple task to remove the bails.
