Yorkshire Women v Leicestershire Women at Headingley Vitality Blast June 8th
Neil Whitaker reports
YORKSHIRE Women won the second match in the Women’s Vitality Blast as they beat the Leicestershire Foxes women by 26 runs at Headingley.
Georgie Boyce top scored for Yorkshire with 46 as Yorkshire were dismissed for 127 inside their 20 overs. She drove Laura Crofts through long-off and a misfield on the boundary edge allowed the ball to cross the line. Boyce slogged D’Nica Roff to Flora Davies on the mid-wicket boundary. Her 46 included five fours. She shared in a second wicket partnership of 60 in eight overs with Amelia Oliver, the only partnership of any note in the Yorkshire innings. After her departure the Yorkshire innings faded.
A thick outside edge by Oliver brought up the Yorkshire 50 in the eighth over. The partnership was broken when she edged a drive off Roff and stumper Ellen Watson took a steepler of a catch.
Put into bat Yorkshire lost an early wicket when Erin Thomas was leg before to Emma Thatcher to the fourth ball of the match. Ami Campbell drove Crofts but got too far under it and the ball went straight up in the air and Eleanor Phillips at mid-off took a tumbling catch.
Yorkshire captain Madeline Ward walked across her stumps to scoop Crofts and was bowled. Olivia Thomas took a couple of paces down the pitch to Francesco Sweet to smash her but missed the ball and was easily stumped by Lucy Watson.
Rebecca Duckworth cut Sweet to Roff at backward point and set off for a single but couldn’t beat her return to the bowlers’ end.
Ria Frackrell drove Phillips but picked out Rebecca Brooker at mid-off. Claudia Cooper tried to drive Emma Thatcher but didn’t get near it or any power and Holly Whitfield at mid-off took the catch.
The Yorkshire innings was wrapped one ball inside their 20 overs when Watson took her second stumping this time of Phillips when Cooper missed the ball and the stumping was as easy as taking candy from a baby.
For the Foxes the wickets were shared between Thatcher, Phillips, Crofts, Sweet and Roff.
After a steady start the Foxes lost their first wicket when Sweet was bowled in the last over of the power play as she played over the ball by Olivia Thomas. She nearly chopped on to the previous ball.
The Foxes lost their second wicket in six balls when off-spinner Frackrell struck with her first ball when Davies drove her straight to Cooper at mid-off.
Frackrell got her second in her next over when Brooker tried to hit her straight and the ball turned into her leg stump. Watson cut Holly Garton and set off for a single but couldn’t beat Campbell’s direct hit knocking one stump out of the ground,
Weston launched Frackrell straight for a six and clipped the next ball to the mid-wicket boundary. In the next over she drilled Thomas to the long-on boundary. But she went for one big hit too many when she pulled Olivia Thomas to Erin Thomas on the square leg boundary.
Phillips turned Olivia Thomas round the corner and set off for a single but was sent back by Crofts and was run out by a mile.
Crofts clipped Cooper off her ties to Fackrell who took a good diving catch on the mid-wicket boundary. Next ball Whitfield was stumped by Ward off Cooper. Roff skied a drive off Garton and Cooper at extra cover took the catch.
The Foxes have now lost their two matches.
