YORKSHIRE beat Notts Outlaws by 18 runs at Headingley completing the double over the North Group winners.July 16, 2026 12:48 pm
Electing to bat Yorkshire opened with Adam with Lyth and Will Luxton who dispatched his first ball from Dylan Pennington to the mid-wicket boundary. In the next over he drove Olly Stone to the extra cove boundary and then drove him straight to the long-off boundary. They made one change from the side that lost to Lancashire Lightning on Friday, Dom Bess came in for Dan Moriarty and Yorkshire set off like a train on with Lyth clipping Stone off his toes for a six over fine leg. He pulled Fernando over the square leg boundary for a six. Lyth went down the pitch to the slow left arm spinner George Linde and lofted him over the long-off boundary for a six. The faster the Outlaws bowlers bowled,the faster the ball went to the boundary. Yorkshire scored 82 in their power play with 68 of their runs coming in boundaries. Still not finished Lyth flat batted Fernando over the mid- wicket boundary for another six. Lyth reached his fifty from 24 balls with five sixes and three fours. His innings ended when he had a swing across the line to Benny Howell, missed the ball and was leg before. Yorkshire then lost five wickets for 59 runs in eight overs.
By the time he was out Lyth had made Luxton look like someone who was struggling to get the ball away. Luxton was the first through the revolving door when he top edged a cut off Patterson-White to stumper Tom Moores. His 38 came from 23 balls with five fours and a six. Joe Root tried to turn Benny Howell to leg but got a leading edge and the ball looped to Pennington at point.
Suddenly the runs tap was turned on. First Jonny Bairstow swept Linde past the sprawling Fernando at point for a boundary to the third man boundary and cut the next ball to the same place for another four. Moeen Ali smashed Howell for a six over long-on into the Howard stand, drove the next ball to the extra cover boundary and flat batted the next ball over long-on for a big six to ruin Howell’s figures. He tried flat batting Liam Patterson-White over the long-on boundary but didn’t get enough power and the ball fell well short of the boundary and Stone running in from the boundary took the catch.
After his recent exploits Matty Revis failed for once. He tried to pull Patterson-White but missed the ball and was leg before. Dom Bess got a faint outside edge to Stone and stumper Tom Moores took the catch. Bess stood in amazement. Baistow was beaten by Fernando’s pace and was yorked. AJ Tye had a big swing at Linde losing his bat in the process as well as his wicket. Then with the scoreboard not moving mayhem ensued with 34 runs coming off the last nine balls.
In their chase the Outlaws lost their first wicket in the fourth over when George Munsey top edged a pull off Logan Van Beek and Tye at mid-on took the catch at the second attempt. Outlaws skipper Joe Clarke thrashed Hassan Ali to the long-off boundary but when he tried flat batting the next ball he didn’t get any in the shot and the ball slowly reached Root at mid-off. Freddie McCann went down the pitch to Bess and drove the ball straight back to him. Moores top edged a pull off Tye to Bess on the square leg boundary looking into the sun.
Jack Haynes reversed swept Jafer Chohan to the third man boundary. While, Linde drove Root into the Howard stand for a straight six and pulled the next ball for a flat six over mid-wicket. He drove Root straight to Bess at mid-on. Two balls later Haynes swept Root to Bess on the square leg boundary. Patterson-White tried to pull Jafer Chohan but it was too full and was bowled.
Howell edged a drive off Jafer Chohan to the third man boundary and cut the next ball to the point boundary. Pennington sliced Van Beek over the point boundary, and smashed Hassen Ali over the mid-wicket boundary for a six. Pennington top edged a flat batted drive and found Revis on the long-on boundary. Stone faced one ball before he was castled by a quick ball from Hassan Ali. The match was when Howell pulled Tye to Bess on the square leg boundary. Tye finished with three for 18 in his 3.3 overs.
Bess who took five catches said: “I've done quite a bit with Tom Smith, one of the coaches, and I need to apologise to Van Beek because I’ve dropped a couple off him now. Hampshire, away, was a very tricky game. Chesterfield was as well; with really tight games we're actually now slowly getting on the top of it.”
