Jonny Tattersall leaves Yorkshire CCC

Neil Whitaker reports

JONNY Tattersall will leave Yorkshire at the end of the season but will remain available fo selection until then.

Tattersall, 30, has had two spells at Yorkshire. In his first spell he was a reliable batsman and cover fielder, he was used as a sub fielder in a Test match at Headingley, but in his second spell much to the amazement of fans and even ex-coaches he turned to wicket keeping. His performances behind the stumps were so good that he was hardly noticed, the sign of a good keeper. In some matches he has ditched his stumping pads and turned his arm over bowling leg spin and occasionally he has opened the bowling.

As well as being a good batsman, fielder, wicket keeper and someone who can bowl leg spin Tattersall has captained the side. As he did in the 2024 promotion run-in in the absence of Captain Shan Masood who was on international duty with Pakistan.

been a committed and valued member of the squad since making his debut in 2013, going on to represent Yorkshire across all formats over more than a decade.

He said: “It’s been a huge honour to represent Yorkshire. Wearing the White Rose has meant so much to me. Coming back to the Club after a year away and being able to captain the side was something I could only have dreamed of.

I’d like to thank my teammates for the part they have played in my life, especially the last 18 months. I’ll be forever grateful to each and every one of them. The memories of last season as a team are ones I will never forget.

New opportunities have arisen for me which I cannot turn down and I’m excited for what’s ahead.

Lastly, I’d like to thank the supporters – being able to take the field at Headingley in front of Yorkshire crowds has been a privilege. I wish everyone at Yorkshire the best going forward.”

Yorkshire’s General Manager of Cricket, Gavin Hamilton said: "Tattersall has given everything to the Club and shown tremendous professionalism throughout his time here. He’s a respected figure in the dressing room, and a great ambassador for Yorkshire Cricket. His dedication on and off the field has been exceptional. We’d like to thank him for everything he has done and wish him all the very best for the future."
