The Walter Lawrence Trophy is the oldest sponsored award in UK first class cricket and in 2002 Matthew Fleming won the trophy with a sparkling innings against the touring Sri Lankans at Canterbury. At the end of the season AON the sponsors held a Black Tie Presentation Dinner in the Long Room.
