Sport England
Sport England, actually the Sports Council of England, process Lottery fund applications...the major source of outside funding available to clubs. ECB gives no funds whatsoever to local clubs instead it pays the First Class County Clubs some £30million annually and about £3million to the Cricket Foundation to pay out to the 39 County Boards, University Centres Of Excellence, Channel Islands and London Community cricket.
Lottery grants involve a lot of paperwork and grants tend to have followed those clubs with good paperwork members especially Chartered Accountants. Very little has gone into joint Club/Local Council/School projects which cry out for this sort of funding.
The Community Sports Budget keeps being into by the Government to assist giant cocks up like The Dome and the Manchester Commonwealth Games and probably 'New Wembley'.

Nevertheless it remains the biggest and best source of outside funds for local cricket clubs.

Historically ithas put more money into UK Youth Cricket than the governing bodies MCC/Cricket Council/TCB/NCA/ECB.
Local clubs that are affiliated to their County Boards and run a youth section at their club may apply for grants and equipment.
Because of the requirement for applications to come through County Boards and formerly County Associations many of the neediest and most deserving oc clubs in the inner cities were ineligible for these grants. This is now being addressed and hopefully a more flexible approach operated.
Taverners sponsor and initiated several inner city cricket projects as well as the the two national youth club competitions-Suburu and SunLife.

Work Permits for UK visiting club professionals
Of course the simplest thing is for overseas professionals to acquire a European Community passport-Irish, Italian, Greek etc but otherwise the Home Office cricket loving mandarins have devised an obstacle course and woe betide if club or cricketer make a mistake. Just as if the cricketer was the most undesirable social miscreant the Home Office sends him back home. For such Mandarins a cricketer sent packing is a good day's play!

As a result the League Cricket Conference have had years of experience in advising clubs what to do and working with the Home Office Mandarins to draw up if not simple procedures then at least fair and consistant ones.

With the lightening recent spread of official overseas professionals in league cricket in Southern England clubs are recommended to avail themselves of this excellent service.
